The wrinkles could be anywhere, but in Boz’s case I would be enquiring hardest about the ATO CGT rules and their residency rules. My recollection more than a decade ago was that crossing the border “could be” a CGT event, but that you might have been able to elect as to whether to trigger it for your assets by the actions you took or didn’t take. Definitely the realm of a GOOD tax specialist. Absolutely can’t be treated with Towie’s flippancy.
