Hi Towie,
The design of exploration wells and production wells are different (casing design, laterals vs vertical, etc).
Also, the optimal location for production wells are seldom in the same location as the exploration wells. These exploration & appraisal wells will be plugged and abandoned (P&A'd) and the production & injection wells will likely be designed and drilled from scratch during the field development phase.
