Most deposits at the Triassic level in the NWS are in fault blocks. The Phoenix trend are in fault blocks and were targeted due to the tested trapping mechanism in the NWS.

The structuring of the NWS has the central play fairway are a set of rift basins interconnected. The faulting is quite amazing and created the conditions to trap large quantities of gas and oil. The faults also raise migration and trapping issues, hence a well could drill on the wrong side of a fault and only miss a deposit by a few metres. The sub basins have distinct differences and hence knowing the key to unlocking each potential is important.
