Who wouldn't want to incentivise two of the biggest Tier 1 Lithium suppliers to build a critical battery mineral processing facility in their country?
Yes, agree, exciting.
For those that are disappointed. Please name a better partner, with a proven track record as a Lithium chemical producer, who has the IP to build, commission, operate and sell a Lithium chemical? Please don't say Elon, Tianqi, ALB or SQM. They are not even close. Look at the ALB Kemerton fiasco, Tianqi Kwinana shemozzle, Covalent Lithium not proven and Elon a first timer.
Do I wish western democracies had fallen so far behind in the Lithium race. No. Do I wish Posco was a proven facility and on par with what Ganfeng operates, Yes. Over the next couple of years, we shall find out if the Posco JV is worth expanding on so if the Ganfeng JV doesn't work out, who's to say that isn't plan B.
