I don't see too much sovereign risk in Mali. This mine has been operating for 20 years, they've just been through a coup without 1 shot fired. Many big companies such as Barrick are in W Africa.
In my home state of WA, the ever popular Premier legislated that any gas discoveries have to be supplied to the local market, great if you're a consumer, not if you're an explorer. Oh, 2 companies were exempted, these have a large holding on their registers by a Mr Stokes, a friend of the Premier. Now thats what I call sovereign risk. Did I mention the same state has it's borders closed, mining companies in WA can't fly their staff in, in fact Australians can't depart o/s, our team can't leave to go to Mali.
For sure there is some risk just as there is here. Personally I think the cheap labour more than makes up for that risk.
