When you place an order, your order is immediately replaced with a higher bid. Companies such as market makers use computer systems to buy and sell and large investors use trading platforms to buy decent supply of stock, then sell a small amount to drop the price. Place an order and you will see another buyer come in under half a second to try and stop you buying.
