I'm seeing a short-sell tactic, in the general sense of selling hard with the expectation of buying back lower, not necessarily with the contrivance of 'borrowing' shares. Hide the manipulation behind an announcement for plausible deniability.
Like people are saying, "everyone" expected a CR, stock sitting on recent highs, no better time to attack.
