Azure are targeting pegmatites which in this case host abundant spodumene mineralisation. Spodumene [LiAl(SiO3)2] (lithium aluminium silicate) is the primary 'hard rock' lithium mineral (pegmatite ore is mined, processed and a spodumene concentrate is produced, and the concentrate is then further processed to produce lithium carbonate which is a precursor material for the production of Li-ion batteries.
There are multiple spodumene deposits in Australia, but only a select few world class (note the recent news as regards the proposed take over of Liontown Resources by Albemarle, rumoured to be in the order of $5.2bn - Liontown hold the world class Kathleen Valley spodumene deposit in WA (156Mt @ 1.4% LiO2).
Subject to assay results (not yet released) it looks like AZS have intersected a potentially world class spodumene deposit, which if confirmed, will be exceptionally exciting.
