I reluctantly had to offload a couple today, purely cause I’ve overcommitted to much towards this and left myself battling some significant cash flow issues this month.
I noted strange fluctuations with buyers/sellers orders when I sold. Sort of what that rebel person said.
I couldn’t be certain but it did seem a little out of the usual. I wouldn’t know what the reasoning behind it was.
i suppose if you had a very strong holding, and you are managing multiple accounts, theoretically it could be possible to create a favourable price for buying/selling.
In theory, if you were trying to sell a large holding, you could keep propping up buying orders to force other buyers to up their purchase price to jump the queue. When it gets a little upwards swing, you could even buy up shares and remove sell orders, whilst adding to the buying depth. When the SP rallies 20%, you could start to increase selling, then quickly take a large dump, maximising the return. And if you’re trying to accumulate a large position you could potentially do a similar play just slightly adjusted to keeping the price lower.
If this is an actual thing or not, I wouldn’t have a clue, it does seem plausible. The other question, if it is possible, is it ethical/not fair play. Well IMO I think it would be reasonable for a large trade by a single entity, to be done in such away that doesn’t cause a significant movement in the SP. Imagine if I wanted to sell/buy say 50,000,000 shares, if I dump that order in one go, the SP would probably swing wildly. Once my order is done, there’d be a cascading effect.
So maybe some ppl are in a position that warrants more strategy in opening and closing positions. If that means a period of share churning to not significantly impact the share price, the really, that’s fair play. But that’s my opinion, wouldn’t have a clue about legality of it. Seems like it’d probably fall into a grey area of law cause there’s a bit of an argument for/against it.
