The volume is real, unless someone is selling to themselves. If they are, they are not being very successful in selling down then are they!
Yes there are dummy orders and yes they probably come from someone who wants to pump the price to sell down. That may have had a little influence. But there are people with real buy orders and volume driving upticks in price. I think they want to accumulate and are testing resistance levels - how much they can buy before the price goes up too much. When they stop buying in volume the price drops back a little but not a lot.
