Could have been a bad reaction to sedatives, ruptured aneurysm triggered by high blood pressure due to stress, mixture of alcohol/sedatives etc. Lots of reasons why men this age can suddenly collapse and die before you point the finger at self-harm.
I'm very sad for the family. It is a terrible thing to lose a parent when you are a child and having been in that situation myself I really feel for his poor kids.
