Scientific speak. These dudes have one big hypothesis of what they expect all the way down to TD. They compare results against their expectations so see how their hypothesis stacks up. As they aren't down there to see the oil extent first hand they need to gather a lot of evidence to make various conclusions.

So probably weren't expecting multiple oil shows in this area / depth but having found them is a significant event but not way out of the ordinary.
