"DTL have such a great relationship with the government - I would hope this has been won on relationship and therefore at nice margins."
Whenever I come across the word "relationship" in a commercial context, I cringe a little.
Because it connotes some sort of cosy, preferential arrangement that is based on something other than superior competence, and which is therefore not likely to be enduring.
But in Data#3's case, I suspect the "relationship" with government has zero elements of "corporate hospitality" which has won Data#3 the business; rather, as a long-term shareholder, I like to think it exists because Data#3 is simply that much better at what it does, than are its competitors.
For the sake of being able to continue to be an owner of Dat#3 in good faith, I am always alert to evidence of any client schmoozing, however.
