Yeah, this is like I said, you want to maximise the recovery by increasing the Al in the feed stock, which can be achieved by separating out the magnetite, leaving plagioclase and pyroxene.

    My take on this announcement?

99.98% in the intermediate product is not HPA. If this is calcined, the impurities increase. 0.02% is 200ppm in the hydroxide. The hydroxide is ~50% by water, so once you remove it, the resultant calcine will have more impurities.
Eg, 200ppm @ 50% water = 400ppm at 0% water, or 99.96%. They also don't mention what those impurities are. It's likely to be a considerable amount of sodium, given plagioclase is Ca,NaAlSiOx, plus a smattering of other elements typically high in **bros, and which typically correlate into alums. Magnesium alum is an unusual mineralogy, but in the case of taking a **bro and dissolving it in acid, and producing an intermediate alum, MgAlSO4 is a possibility. So I don't particularly think that this is going to pan out. There's a long way to go between 99.96% and 99.99%, believe me. Plus, now the V, Ti, Fe is the waste? So much for Speewah being the world's biggest V,Ti deposit. Now it's a terrible hard rock aluminium deposit.
