"WE know it's a hiring gusher at the moment in the investment banking space, but the contagion appears to have spread across to the legal world too.
Top-end briefs Minter Ellison have lured Nicola Young back from the US to join their growing mergers and acquisitions practice in Sydney.
Young is a former solicitor with Mallesons who headed to New York to study at the Harvard Business School and ended up staying for the best part of 20 years. She joined the corporate advisory firm Lazard before heading to the Thundering Herd at Merrill Lynch, where she worked in M&A while completing her MBA. One of her most active roles was as an adviser to Glaxo on the takeover of Wellcome, the second-largest corporate takeover in the US at the time.
After that, the Australian-born Young headed to Silicon Valley where she co-established an investment company. She's now back in Sydney and will work alongside Minters' corporate division head James Philips, no doubt with the aim of bolstering the firm's market share of M&A work, this year's hot tip business."
