Oz govt has absolute power to stop foriegn entity buying and takeovers.
I have been waiting on FIRB approval on buying an ore body (not the company) and that's 6 mths in with no outcome as yet. Hopefully this week.
Both newcrest and newmont were asx listed so not too sure if that requires FIRB approval.
