The SFI technology was interesting & I felt it had potential to give Nearmap a run (have foot in both camps), so it really craps me off to see a big OS co come along to just gobble up our technology for a pittance after we have done the hard yards of development time and risk.
We are told that Aust future economy is based on being a 'smart and technology based economy'.
This is just another case of stupidly 'shooting ourselves in the economic foot', for the immediate gain and greed of a few. How can this country prosper with 'goons' like this running our companies.
I would very much like to see the company complete developing the technology and put it into production to produce royalties and sales of product (== longterm sustainable revenue / profit / dividends).
That would be my first preference.
Failing that, are there any other interested parties at non low-ball price. Read elsewhere that Apple are to revamp their mapping app/product in a big way (as are Google) as both see spatial/map queries as the big revenue source as many ppl use map based searches rather than google text searches .... thus google etc are missing out on advert revenue.
In this context, the article indicated that thes companies were slowly and quietly acquiring mapping / spatial technologies so they could control things 'in house'.
Maybe (dont like the concept), the Chinese will come along with a much higher bid like they have for Sirtex (over the US based Varian offer). Once again it was a grab for the ' IP / Technology).
Silly Australians .... we sellout for the quick 'pieces of silver', to then blow it on 'imported consumption' and imports that have been produced using our sold-off technology.

Imagine to sh!tstorm in USA and Australia if Chinese owned SFI and the camera system. USA are paranoid enough without a Chinese owned camera system. lol
