Stop losses are likely contributing to the decline. When everyone with a stop loss has been stopped out, the sp might be ready to reverse sharply higher. Picking that point is too hard. Once it's fallen too far, which I think it now has, it's easier to sit and wait rather than selling too low for a loss or much smaller profit and watching it reverse straight back up again.
