ECT positioned to support national hydrogen strategy

Environmental Clean Technologies Limited (ASX: ECT) (ECT or Company) is pleased to provide its submission to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Energy Council’s National Hydrogen Strategy which closed on 28 July 2019.
    Key points:
    • Government hydrogen strategy consultation process underway
    • Renewable hydrogen scale-up challenge presents a significant hurdle
    • Capturing a major slice of the hydrogen market is crucial to offsetting Australia’s lost future coal and LNG exports and safeguarding Australia’s economic and energy security
    • ECT’s Coldry & COHgen technologies positioned to support lower cost, lower emission hydrogen production
    National Hydrogen Strategy
The COAG Energy Council Working Group is consulting with industry and the community to develop the national hydrogen strategy. Building on earlier consultation, the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science recently called for responses to nine key issue papers, seeking feedback on the potential role of policies and actions in realising hydrogen opportunities.
The Company’s submission includes a summary and direct responses to the issue papers, which are provided in this announcement.
Chairman, Glenn Fozard commented, “The hydrogen industry represents a material opportunity. As such, we’re currently undertaking to develop and promote our technologies to hydrogen project stakeholders with the objective of delivering lower cost, lower emission outcomes in support of Australia’s brown coal-based hydrogen industry.
“We have been actively and purposefully developing our technology suite to support applications in the emerging hydrogen industry since 2013. We have known for a long time that our Coldry and Matmor technologies have a significant economic edge over conventional processes, but it has only been in the last few years that we have extended our understanding of the role that hydrogen plays in various chemical processes to make breakthroughs in primary iron making and more recently, hydrogen production.
“This led to our hydrogen-based HydroMOR iron making process superseding our carbon-based Matmor iron making process, which led to the advancement of the practical application of certain catalysts and the current development of our unique brown coal-based hydrogen generation process, COHGen.
“Our national hydrogen strategy submission should give the reader a good understanding of where ECT’s technology suite fits in the future of Australia’s and the world’s emerging hydrogen economy.”
The Company looks forward to providing further updates on hydrogen initiatives in due course.
