Can't help but think that this application could be in response to the employee that recently "left" the company. They were, judging by the large number of options held, reasonably senior and may have been privy to the processes involved. I am sure that confidentiality agreements were signed but that would not stop them from leaving the details on a park bench somewhere for competitors to pick up...
