Agree, what a joke that this guy is taking credit and taking home a massive bonus because he paid off the debt that he created. And the only reason the company was able to do so was the amazing coal price, nothing to do with his personal management of the company.

Sure he may have had a significant dealings in regards to extending the terms of the eurobond (the bond holders really had no other if they wanted cash though), but he would have also had been significant dealings with the many FAILED attempts to refinance it.

What I find interesting, he has been paid $450,000 already for lieu of notice.
1. My guess is that he has been asked to leave the company if he is getting his notice period paid out.
2. If he voluntarily resigned but then the BOD said, go away pack your bags son, then again like 1. above, the company would likely have to pay out the notice period.
3. If he voluntarily resigned and he worked the notice period he would be paid for it fair and square.
