Unlike many commodities there is no specific spot market for diamonds, each diamond category is sold as a unique unit likely 30-50 individual lots per sale that can vary in price from a few $/ct to thousands/ct. Each time you have a sales parcel it will generally have a slightly different make-up to the last time and in higher value parcels that difference may be significant. The KDC - Tiffany deal took some time to come together and had some significant intricacies to keep the parties happy.
