Previously I worked in a number of remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland. All relied on diesel generated power.

The cost of running the diesel generators is extremely expensive but so to is the cost of getting the fuel delivered. Locations such as Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, was one such location where I worked. Everything coming to the island had to be delivered by barge from Kurumba. The cost of everything consumed on the island was virtually doubled by the time that delivery costs were factored in, this also applied to fuel.

The Meta Meya aboriginal community microgrid in WA installed by EMC could be replicated at literally thousands of remote communities throughout the world.
