Ethiopia: Water & Sewerage Authority Introduces Waste Treatment Plants At 759m Br
In the meantime, until the MBRs go fully operational, AWSSA is implementing safety tanks to stabilise liquid waste refinery reservoirs in 17 condominium sites. Named Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) the reservoirs are made in such a way that they manage the liquid wastes for the short term with the refining capacity of 1,000 cubic metres. Among the condominium sites covered by the ABR are those at Tulu Dimtu, Kilinto, Crown, Mekanisa Kotari and Kara Kore condominium sites.

"We are using the ABR technology due to the cost analysis that we have made before going through the project. The ABR is cost efficient, less expensive and labour intensive," said Suleiman Teyebe, communication director at Addis Abeba Water and Sewerage Authority.

The ABRs are in a position to purify over 1000 litres of water per day. The total cost for their installation lies between 3.5 to four million Br each, depending on the type of rock or gravel in the ground.
