    This isn't new, but I've never heard a techie explain how it could happen.
    The only sensitive front end component in radar is the detector diode. Spares are kept wrapped in tinfoil and mishandling can allow static in your fingers to blow the diode........ BUT .........you can't subject it to these voltages while it is plugged into a wave-guide.
    A direct high power blast into the set's antenna may do this but the desired power would not be easy to administer.
