Thanks for bringing this up.
As a shareholder, I think this is a terrible idea.
The original idea behind options was to incentivise employees above a salary, to help the company, expressed via its share price.
So giving them options below the market price does not encourage employees to strive to work harder than they otherwise would. ie it gets lumped into pay for the job, not a reward for doing a better job. As such it dilutes my and other shareholder's economic interest.
Stinks...
