You will generally find Apis semi reasonably documented for open source projects and the rest involves looking at forums and groups and emailing the company asking how to do what isn't currently documented.

For private enterprise APIs you usually have some sort of agreement that allows you access to their internal documentation and support people.

Emailing the company sounds like a very legacy scenario. This isn't being flogged as some backend enterprise to enterprise integration. This is a public "marketplace" api for ad integration to a game engine which is behind a paywall. i would just expect a bit better from what I've seen to be honest.
