    Alexicool® products were chosen as key PCM ingredient in a multi-million pillow program with a major North American big-box retailer. These products were selected as the key cooling technology for innovative pillows developed in a partnership with Pegasus Home Furnishings….
    Alexium CCO Allen Reihman stated, “We are encouraged about the new products developed in our Pegasus initiatives, and this capitalizes on strong technical and commercial efforts by both companies. We have worked with Pegasus to provide their extensive customer base with improved cooling functionality using the latest technical innovations.


    My reading of this is that Alexicool will feature in a big-box retailer’s range of home brand pillows, which Pegasus Home Fashions is manufacturing.
    Perhaps Walmart? Perhaps Target?
    Both Walmart and Target are part of Pegasus’ current customer base and both launched new bedding home brands this year.
    Walmart launched Allswell Home, a separate, online-only start-up selling “curated bedding”. Its mattress and bedding range is priced at slightly higher price points than typical Walmart products. The marketing pitch for the brand highlights that it offers tangible benefits at best price.

    We believe in constantly improving, evolving, and streamlining our products and processes, to bring you the best price and value possible.
    We believe that customers today demand proven quality, tangible features, and clear benefits — and see through dizzying platitudes, empty promises, and jokey marketing tactics.


    I note that the current Allswell home range features just one “essentials” pillow ($30- $45), which doesn’t feature cooling technology.

    Also this year, Target launched a new home brand called “Made by Design”, which is available in-store. Made by Design encompasses kitchen, bath and bedding products. The brand slogan is “Elevating Everyday Items, Without Breaking the Bank”. Made by Design offers a range of a dozen or so pillows, including a “cool touch” memory foam pillow ($35-$44) which appears to derive its cooling feature from “more breathable” foam, rather than PCM.
    Last year, Target, in partnership with Oeko-Tex, introduced a new chemicals policy aimed at eradicating harmful chemicals from its supply chain for certain products, including textiles. Also last year, Alexicool received Oeko-Tex certification.
    Could be either, could be neither… but it’s possible to see how Alexicool could fit the marketing message and bring value to either of these new big- box retailer homebrands.
