Was thinking about this yesterday - the point about de-risking can't be overstated.
Being picky with one particular company & only because they are commitments which immediately come to mind :
2007 $2.4b Port Hedland BHP plant to be demolished
2008 BHP Annual Report brings up Jansen - set for FID in 2023
2010 BHP slows ore growth by shelving harbour
2017 BHP's $50 billion shale oil blunder
And of course Iron Bridge FMG - Fortescue top brass out amid fears of $1b cost blowout - AFR
The time taken hasn't been wasted - it appears to have been used to optimize the process without building a plant.
Another thing to note is SMS Siemag - their capabilities are unbelievable. Seriously unbelievable. And from what I can tell, they are one of the leaders in digitalization of all facets of mineral processing through to value added product - I'm trying to find the time to read through all their Linked In posts, but if you were to pick an engineering company to do something no-one else had, you'd be knocking on their door. Yet they knocked on TNG's.
