From the Talk Abstract:
To create orthogonal toolbox of protein-based signal detectors and amplifiers we combined structure-based engineering and directed evolution of proteins. This approach allowed us to create artificial sensors and signal transducers that could be compiled into artificial signalling systems. Using this approach we created a range of biosensors for proteins and xenobiotics and demonstrated that these can be integrated into simple Point of Care devices. The technology is now being commercialised by a start-up company Molecular Warehouse Ltd and I will discuss the role of commercial entities in transforming new scientific ideas into life changing products.
