I'll just include this little puppy regarding offensive/defensive laser weapons in space.( Ben mentioned the need for offensive/defensive capabilities))
Just like submarines when we said we are building diesel/electric subs yawn no one cared.When we said we are building nuclear subs all hell broke lose.
Lasers in space are no different,if u have a pathetic battery powered laser well russia (and china) will laugh then they will hit u with their nuclear powered lasers.
Russia has approx 30 nuclear powered satellites,probably 50% past their use by date.But russia and china don't care about old nuclear satellites floating around,but they are absolutely aware of the superioty of mini reactor powered satellites/spacecraft laser weapons.
We need a nuclear industry for subs and space development.
