Do you take the dilutive CR route, which over time has a detrimental effect on the SP, coupled with an option-exercising event to further make things worse.
OR
You bring on a cornerstone investor to fund the company and run the risk that they will play games with the SP to further increase their position.

Either way the SP takes a beating, but in the second scenario you haven't added dilution or increased your 'unknown' quantities risk that the CR would attract.

They made the right call and at the time it was hard to see why, now it's crystal clear that it was the perfect way to fund the company.
