At the moment Germany is importing nearly all batteries. If, however, the market of EV is growing as planned (1M EV in Germany) + further export worldwide, it might be that the car manufacturers will have issues to get the required amount of batteries at a good price on the global market. Germany doesn't plan to invest into Li-ion batteries of the 2nd generation but is considering producing 3rd and/or future 4th generation batteries. This might be around 2018/19. For this year’s 'Roadmap 2015' discussions are under way whether or not it could be economical sound to start battery production in Germany (if yes an investment volume of > 1 Billion Euro is estimated).
