The shorting is done to hide the accumulation and lower their entry price. About 10% of daily traded volume is shorted and if you look at the ASX change of holding notices from MUGS/MS they are the ones doing most of the algo trading. I've tested it at end of April when I placed 3 @market orders a minute apart just large enough to reach into what I believed was the capping parcel a few lines down the sell side and each time the bot snapped the rest of the parcel 2 seconds later. Not more & not less then the remaining parcel and each time within 2 seconds so definitely a bot.
