Just to flesh out the AOE analogy a bit more. The Shell/Petrochina bid was announced 8 March and the acquisition finalised late July/early August (final court approval) some 5 months. If we think that the expiry of the HGO top-up clause around 11 january 2011 may be when STO would want to cquire ESG ... then 5 months prior to that is NOW! Nothing to stop STO making a move in coming months given the time that any takeover is likely to take .. especially if there are any other interested parties.
