WE was a fairly new target so they wouldn't have known the exact mud weight. Its actually not normal to flare whilst drilling as it means gas is entering the well which becomes dangeroues and needs increased mud weights. So you would think with all the PB wells now drilled they'd have a good handle on the mud weights to not have gas entering the ell
