I'm confused on how paying more than the heads price in conversion of options would be better than letting A options expire, or sell options for whatever and take the capital loss credit. Then if so inclined to stay in this company, buy at market at less than the strike price.
Paying giving money to a company that can't be bothered to inform its customers sounds like lunacy to me.
