Did you stop and consider why these stories are being published?
"The world can't afford full time EV's"
This is a highly flawed argument. I have read these same articles - Essentially discussing tier 2 EV makers which are trying to compete for market share by selling high tech, glitz and glam vehicles, and selling them at a loss for now as a result. Take Nio for example - they are losing $35,000 per car sold currrently, yet they come with augmented reality glasses for each seat, and fully equipped with all the sensors and processors for autonomous driving. They are also spending heavily on marketing campaigns globally. Could they manufacture electric vehicles for less? You bet they could - far less. But this is about gaining market share as fast as possible. A similar comparison would be the electric rental scooter companies - one day there was none of them, Then suddenly the streets of major cities were filled with them from a dozen or so startup brands all competing with each other to have the best availability and the lowest price per minute. And all running at a substantial loss in favour of market share - the Uber model of scaling a business aggressively.
Then you have the first mover advantage - Tesla. They are clearly highly profitable and growing QoQ. Instead of splurging on marketing they have zero spend and have instead focused from day 1 on attracting a price premium through leading edge engineering of their products and lowering production costs by driving efficiencies and vertical integration.

To read some articles about how newcomers are selling EVs at a loss and being propped up by government subsidies in China and then project that to say the world can't afford EV's is quite frankly nonsense,
Ask yourself this - if you were to start from scratch today, and set up an automotive manufacturing business. And you had to develop all your own designs, tooling, automation, assembly lines etc. Would you opt to build ICE cars or EV's? What would be more expensive to produce? Do you really think it would cost you less to design your own engines with tens of thousands of moving parts, gearboxes, oil circuits, cooling circuits, transmission fluids etc? Or would you simply opt for a basic skateboard chassis with a battery on the floor, and an electric motor powering an axle.
The basics of EV's are incredibly simple - and affordable. A competent home DIY'er can easily convert an old car into an EV by purchasing a battery and motor kit and installing themselves. They are far less troublesome to run also. More like running a washing machine than trying to service and maintain a complicated petrol or diesel combustion engine. Ever wondered why we don't have diesel engines to spin our washing machine?
It is the competition for market share that is driving these companies to run at a loss - and that is just par for the course in doing business on a global scale in modern times. But the big oil propaganda machine loves to make you believe they are just pie in the sky make believe nonsense that is too expensive and runs out of battery on your average trip to coles, and will ruin your weekend if you even think about wanting to tow a boat.
