Here are battery test results for Alabama, Syrah and Magnis.
Alabama
First Discharge Capacity 367.21 mAh/g
Irreversible Capacity Loss 5.09 %
BET Surface Area 0.62 m^2/g
Syrah
First Discharge Capacity 369.95 mAh/g
Irreversible Capacity Loss 5.50 %
BET Surface Area 2.01 m^2/g
Magnis
First Discharge Capacity 374 mAh/g
Irreversible Capacity Loss 2.90 %
BET Surface Area 4.09 m^2/g
A low BET Surface Area is known as a prerequisite for achieving low Irreversible Capacity Loss. Interestingly, Magnis reported remarkably low Irreversible Capacity Loss with high BET Surface Area.
I contacted Frank Houllis for clarification.
Here is what he said:
A high BET Surface Area is good for power, which means faster acceleration for cars. The best thing to have is low Irreversible Capacity Loss and high BET Surface Area. But rarely do they come together. In our case, they obviously do.
The theoretical maximum Discharge Capacity for natural graphite is 372 mAh/g. Note that ours has exceeded the limit.
No doubt our graphite is unique. Our test results are remarkable. The game is over.
