This YT vid is actually a good watch regarding the sector as a whole.
Basically:- - banks aren't financing and havent really done so since 2011, so junior gold are having to bootstrap themselves. This means options all over the place which are dilutive, and even firms sitting on good prospects are having to worry about their cash ramp and running out of money
- the labour costs are just astronomical, so even with the sky high gold price and even with some decent grades, the margins aren't top notch and if the gold price ever dropped down to USD2K (which it probably won't) a lot of these fields would be worthless
- miners have always had a bit of a bad rep about making out like bandits and never really rewarding their shareholders. Its a risky business and yeah they need cash reserves but if they want to increase their SP, they'll need to start paying dividends
