OZ Minerals nominates new executive team

Diversified miner OZ Minerals has appointed a new executive committee, conditional on the proposed sale of key assets to China's Minmetals, with six members instead of the current nine.

The company's general manager strategic planning, Andrew Coles, has been promoted to chief financial officer, while Prominent Hill general manager Mick Wilkes has been appointed as executive general manager operations for OZ.

Existing OZ executives Tony Manini and John Nitschke have been appointed as executive general managers of exploration and business development, and projects and technical support, respectively.

Company secretary and general counsel Francesca Lee will retain her current role.

OZ Minerals chairman Barry Cusack said the new executive team would employ their depth of industry experience to develop the company.

"They are enthusiastic about the opportunity they have to successfully operate and develop Prominent Hill, and to pursue value adding exploration and development opportunities," Mr Cusack said in a statement.

The appointments are subject to completion of the Minmetals deal, which received approval from China's National Development and Reform Commission earlier this month, while awaiting approval from other Chinese regulators.

OZ's board has unanimously recommended the deal, with a shareholder vote scheduled for June 11.

The company has previously said if shareholders passed the resolution, the transaction would be completed before June 18.

By 1530 AEST, OZ Minerals shares were 3.65 per cent lower at 79 cents.
