Sasol Takes $1.9 Billion Charge on Coal Unit as Emissions Rise
In SA, the impairment of Secunda reflects the uncertainty that Sasol will be able to source enough natural gas to enable it to maintain present production levels as it replaces coal as a feedstock.
“With no significant additional gas to restore volumes back to historic levels, the emissions reduction roadmap assumes lower production volumes post 2030, and also results in increased cost of coal and capital expenditure,” says Grobler.
