This is the big question. It appears to be sudden and not planned which is not usually a good sign. If the CEO was just taking up a better job then normally you would expect a reasonable transition of a few months to allow the company to find someone new. When a CEO suddenly departs with no real explanation there is usually either conflict with the board or something was uncovered.
The market certainly didn't like the news.
