I am a former ICU nurse manager (now remote area specialist) and have been a shareholder (accumulating not selling one share) over the last couple of years.
Interesting discussions around CVL (central venous line) delivery and the aim of reformulating to peripheral or oral administration.
firstly CVL lines are relatively common but do have some considerations in the form of lung puncture( pneumothorax) and are prone to infection(potentially leading to sepsis). They are generally changed out after 7-10 days for that reason
there are other CVL alternatives in the form of PICC lines (peripherally inserted central catheters) that do not have the same insertion risk and can be left in for longer periods and are increasingly being used.
Another work around that is not uncommon in cancer patients is the portacath- a device (port) on the surface of the chest that has a line into a large (central) vein. these can be left in for long periods of time to administer the course of chemo therapy. The pt can still go home etc but require treatment in hospital. Not great to be in hospital but it does allow some lifestyle flexibility
so there are some alternatives available
interesting thing about oral preparations is how they respond to "first pass hepatic metabolism" ie breakdown by the liver soon after absorption. This is a reason why some medicines are best administered IV
oral preparations have there own challenges from an effectiveness point of view
not sure from my reading so far as to how Zantrene performs in this regard?
Another question i have been thinking about is how zantrene impacts the immune system?
many chemotherapeutics cause leukopenia in particular neutropenia. The chemotherapeutics result in a decrease in specific types of white cells that make the patients incredibly susceptible to infection. It is these infections that can ultimately overcome the patients
