It is when something rockets up the way TG6 has. Day traders get pretty confident that they can take a position without necessarily having the funds to cover the trade, knowing they can offload it within the T+2 period for a profit and just bank the difference. Very common for any sudden price spikes. Another thing to watch out for if a stock flies, and just goes higher and higher (e.g. WA1), is when the 50% CGT discount comes around after 12 months from the initial price boom. Some people who bought at 20c would be sitting on massive profits as it has gone up to $10 in 12 months, and would hold off selling any before they gained the CGT discount to reduce the massive tax bill.
