    I am part way through watching the forum.

    At the 18min mark one of the speakers identifies 4 advantages GaN. The following represents my novice's understanding. I have summarized below to help me understand and remember. Go to the 18min mark if you want accurate information from an informed source.

    1) GaN can produce lasers in the visible light spectrum. This is useful for communication;
    2) GaN can produce lasers at specific wavelengths to enable resonance with specific atoms to enable quantum applications. Useful for atomic clocks (not sure how useful that is).
    3) GaN are more efficient in terms of low current in and large photons out. (I think that means low energy in and large energy out). This means GaN lasers can be more powerful with less energy. They can have smaller footprint devices. Useful in medical applications and projectors. (I suspect could also facilitate the high-powered lasers to shoot down drones from an early round table forum).
    4) GaN are very robust, thermally and chemically stable. They can be driven at high power for very long periods and have a long life.
