I've worked in the drilling industry and we were just given a location and depth but had a geo standing by to examine the samples as they are drilled. It's always the Geo's call to stop the drill early or keep drilling further.
Yes personally I don't understand why they keep drilling unless its ending in mineralisation, otherwise it's just gambling
