I make the Marvellous Sample 74 as being within the Towers Granite. There's a whole pile of pissant old workings around here and a spike is inevitable.

So, remembering that gold mineralisation at Charters Towers is associated with sphalerite (cf Kreuzer, 2005) and that VMS mineralisation is associated with a cyclical volcanic pile and barite (cf Franklin et al, 1981), my erudite and learned conclusion, arrived at after many hours of rumination over port and cigars amongst Learned Company at The Charters Towers Civic Club, is that I don' reckun that this sample is VMS related.

And I forgot to point out that my favourite unit drains directly into this sample location. The Campaspe Beds (the beige Ta - Tertiary Alluvium) are chock full of detrital gold and love to make a star appearance in any geochem survey in this region.
