Its a bit like grandad's axe - several heads and handles in its lifetime. Is it the same axe?. Is it the same market? The resource is the resource but an enterprise has other factors of product such as capital, entrepreneurship and labour to bring it to market and that depends on the market price for it to be profitable to reward the owners of the factors of production. The world market price collapsed leading to losses for shareholders in the now distant past, but the owners of the factors of production changed hands (new head) i.e. the management, directors and shareholders who have a different model and anticipate the pickup of the business cycle across a number of commodities our tenements hold in well endowed primary form.
We all have different trading styles based on market timing.
In this game, a loss or two goes with trading territory but I am confident of the long term play here given anticipated future consumer demand despite current world politics which spook people. There is general market malaise at the moment which advantages the heavy hitters. While I believe in protecting my capital having learned the hard way, I don't think it can be talked down too much given DTM's program for those who want to enter trades and sell on the news. A big hit will swamp that strategy given the current operational program. Alternatively, long termers at low price entry will weather the short term noise. At these prices the opportunity exits for building a low price core holding, either with a long view or a trading view for incremental growth, selling a percentage to reduce holding costs or to be free carried should the growth be significant. Otherwise why would anybody be here? Pays to cut losses if the view of the future is pessimistic or beware that greed gets people in too deep without reasonable spread in a portfolio to reduce risk. It is a heartless game.
