My guess is there is potential for that , at some depth though the strip ratio will get so high that they would need to go to underground , as lawson mentioned his mining engineers are getting frustrated with the increasing ore body size as the game plan keeps changing fo when and where they put in the decline / and now your OC cut back option .
So by default the geos need to find where the ore bodies ends in sterile ground so that then the mine engineers are not working with a moving target of where the decline/ open cut cutback starts from for NN .
Good problem to have though .
